Dates For Your Diary

26-28 July

UCL/ PDFL Hop

Based in Peterborough. There has been a slight revision to the line-up after Eynesbury
were shunted sideways into the Spartan South Midlands League, but other than that, here’s
how we look:
Friday 26 July: Stamford Lions v Peterborough Polonia (ground is behind Stamford FC
stadium)
Saturday 27 July: Parson Drove v Oakham United – Orton Rangers v Parkside (UCL/PDFL
HQ ground) – Rothwell Corinthians v Lutterworth Town – Burton Park Wanderers v
Lutterworth Athletic
Sunday 28 July: Cogenhoe United v Loughborough University – Irchester United v
Wellingborough Whitworths – Whittlesey Athletic v Huntingdon Town
A glance at some of the away sides will give you a clue to where we are looking for 2020 in
what will be an all-UCL weekend!

CML Chairman’s Cup, 3 August
Here’s the important bit – it’s being played at Peel Croft. That’s the current home of Burton RFC but it’s the previous home of Burton United (and before that Burton Swifts) who played there in the Football League between 1982 and 1907. They folded in 1910 and it’s been arugby ground since. Now Burton RFC are in the midst of building new facilities, and next season is almost certainly their last at Peel Croft. We only know of some Bass Vase gamesbeing played there in the late 1980s but we can’t let such a fantastic ground go withoutstaging football there one last time so that we can “tick” the ground. The participants will be
Pinxton (League Cup Winners) v Bakewell Town (Division 1 Cup Winners) so it’s the CMFL
“Super Cup”!  There will also be a curtain-raiser game for the International Challenge
Cup between Netherseal St Peter of the MRA representing England and a certain Welsh
club called Garth Vader FC! The first game is off at midday, with the main event at 3pm.
This will be a very family-friendly day with stalls and face painting (and yes, they’ve been
asked to do the Vader facemask!). Admission on the day will be £5 adults, £3 Concessions,
children admitted free with a paying adult. There will be programmes for each match.
Advance tickets will be on sale shortly, including an “early bird” ticket for those who want to
come in and photograph the ground before the gates open.
